NHS Honor Grads Named; Graduation Is Thursday NightPublished Wednesday, May 13, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneGraduates at Nevada High School with highest honors, 3.80 grade point average and up, have been named. The students are Tamla Allen, Amanda Smith, Jeremy Kretz, Amber Miller and Casey Curtis. Students at Nevada graduating with high honors, 3.6 GPA and up, are Tamika Leaks, Rosa Garcia and Shanika Allen. Those with honors, 3.40 and up, are Andrea Maroon, Bobby Nowlin, LeAnne Magness, Jason Rhodes and Amanda Cummings Higgins. Tamla M. Allen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby L. Allen of Rosston. Her school activities, besides graduating with highest honors, include National Honor Society, honor roll, Future Business Leaders of America, Drug-Free Team, graduation com- mittee, Future Teachers of America, senior class president, girls basket-ball, softball and French Club. Her academic achievements include Hugh O'Brian Scholar and Arkansas Governor's School. Amanda Smith is the daughter of Larry and Gladys Smith of Rosston. Her school activities include National Honor Society president, Future Business Leaders of America, Drug-Free Team, publications, G.T. Quiz Bowl and band. In addition to being one of the highest honor graduate, she is a senior of distinction, Miss NHS, Who's Who best personality. Jeremy Kretz is the son of Larry and Denna Kretz of Rosston. His school activities include National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, French Club and Drug-Free Team. A senior of distinction, he was on the honor roll, and an All-District baseball player in 1997. Amber Miller is the daughter of Tony Miller and Kathy Cox of Rosston. At school she was involved in band, Beta, National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Project Pals, publications, G.T., Quiz Bowl, Drug-Free Team, softball, cheerleading, class officer (treasurer) and French Club. Among her honors, she was involved in All-Region Band, All-State Band, Who's Who Among American High School Students, National History and Government Award, National Science Award and Who's Who most talented. Casey Curtis is the son of Jack and Beverly Curtis of Rosston. School activities include National Honor Society, Beta, Future Business Leaders of America, French Club, basketball, baseball and senior class vice president. His honors include honor roll, senior of distinction, All-District basketball, algebra I, algebra II and geometry awards and Who's Who Among American High School Students. Not pictured. Tamika Leaks is the daughter of Bobbie Mason and Willie Leaks of Rosston. Her school activities include Future Business Leaders of America, Future Teachers of America, Quiz Bowl, National Honor Society, Gifted and Talented and yearbook staff. Her honors include Local Tools for Tomorrow, vocational award winner, second place in computer applications, competition at FBLA district and Who's Who Among American High School students. Rosa Garcia is the daughter of Pedro and Maria G. Garcia of Emmet. Her school activities include Future Business of America, National Honor Society, Art Club, French Club and Beta. She is a high honor, and took third place district International Business in FBLA. Andrea L. Maroon is the daughter of Tim and Nancy Maroon of Emmet. Her school activities include Future Business Leaders of America, Environmental Club and French Club. Her honors include Who's Who Among American High School Students and honor roll. Shanika Allen is the daughter of John W. and Ethel M. Allen of Rosston. Among her school activities, she was involved in Future Business Leaders of America, Future Teachers of America, Future Homemakers of America and basketball. Her honors include honor roll, highest honor graduate, academic achievements, received academic scholarship from SAU-Tech in Camden and the Judge Plunkett Book Scholarship. Joey Nowlin is the son of Bobby and Brenda Nowlin of Rosston. His school activities include yearbook editor, band, Future Business Leaders of America, Beta, National Honor Society, Quiz Bowl, Art Club, French Club, Library Club, Drug-Free Team and school play. His honors include All-Region Band, Who's Who Among American High School Students, National History and Government Award, National Journalism Award, and second place district FBLA entreprenuership team. LeAnne Magness is the daughter of Richard and Liz Magness of Rosston. Among her school activities, she was president of FBLA, a member of the Drug-Free Team, French Club, band, homecoming royalty and she was senior prom queen. Her honors include honor roll and first place in district FBLA competition. Jason Rhodes is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Rhodes of Prescott. His school activities include Future Business Leaders of America and Beta. His honors include Who's Who Among High School Students, Science award, District IV awards in business, computer concept, economics and Mr. FBLA. Amanda Cummings Higgins is the daughter of Paula and Rocky Cummings and the wife of Douglas Higgins. Her school activities include Future Business Leaders of America reporter; Environmental Club presi-dent, French Club, Future Home-makers of America and Drug-Free Team. Her honors include Who's Who, honor roll, fifth place business law, Future Business Leaders of America and first place word processing FBLA. Not pictured.
