Bluff City

Some folks have received a little rain, but more is needed. I haven't heard any complaints yet about it being too wet. It appears that many trees are dying from the heat and lack of moisture. We may have to rake leaves early this year.

Casey Carman recently celebrated his 11th birthday with a trip to the bowling alley in Camden. Some who attended were his parents, Bryant and Lisa Carman, his brothers, Tyler and Brandy Carman, his grandparents, Bill and Linda Carman; Britt and Kelly Carman and Rex and Sandra Hildebrand.

Mark and Becky Meador and sons, Sean, Brandon and Bryan, attended church in Bluff City and visited Bill and Linda Carman last Sunday afternoon.

I guess it's time to dig back in the archives and see what happened around here in the month of August in past years.

In 1913, an ad for Bluff City High School advertised "good board with refined Christian families for $8 per month, thorough instruction, and an excellent community with no saloons or other places of immorality. Oscar Dawson, principal."

In August of 1936, Bluff City reported a high temperature of 112 degrees.

Twenty years ago in August of 1979, a well digger was busy drilling wells for Jerry McKelvy, Millard McBride, Bill Nichols and the Church of Christ.

Five years ago in August of 1994, a cellular phone tower was constructed near the state seed orchard on the old Hildre Griffth place.

Our thought this week: "Living on Earth may be expensive, but it includes an annual free trip around the sun."
