DuCharme Says Her Record Is Clean As TreasurerBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, May 13, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune Sydney DuCharme is seeking reelection as Nevada County Treasurer. Her reasoning for running again is because she enjoys the job and it gives her an opportunity to help others. This help does not necessarily conform to the strict duties of the treasurer's office. "I like to help people," she said. "I do notary work, help people with forms they don't understand and make contacts for them so they can get things done." She said some of the office duties have been upgraded and put on computer, but the audit division of the State of Arkansas wants a permanent, physical record of all information kept. Because of this, DuCharme still keeps records the old-fashioned way by hand. "We must follow the guidelines of the audit division," she said. "We've never had a shortage and our reports are without deficiencies. I will continue to follow the guidelines." DuCharme also does the investing for the Emmet School District, Prescott and Nevada have their own investment counselors. She has several years of banking and accounting experience behind her and has served on the legislative committee for treasurers. In addition, DuCharme has completed a number of training courses for the position so she can keep up with changes in the law and how records are to be kept. Along with keeping track of and investing the county's money, DuCharme is a member of the Prescott FFA alumni organization, the Prescott-Nevada County Industrial Commission and the Breadbasket. "I'm dedicated to this county," she said. "I'm concerned about the people and I've always been involved. I enjoy it. I enjoy people, and if I can help them it's even better." Sydney and Delbert DuCharme have two daughters, one living in Prescott the other in Camden. She was born and raised in Nevada County and is a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she is involved in church-related activities as well. DuCharme's spare time is spent with grandchildren, reading and gardening. "I appreciate your support," she said. "While campaigning, I will try and keep up with the work, but it has been impossible for me to see everyone in the county. I would like to, but the duties of my office require my time as well."
