One Arrest Reported During HolidaysBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, January 7, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune For the most part, area law enforcement agencies had little to do during the holidays. According to Jim Westmoreland, criminal investigator for the Nevada County Sheriff's Office and Prescott Police Department, James E. Talley, 30, of Waldo, was arrested Dec. 30, 1997, but has been released on a bond of $15,000. Westmoreland said Talley was charged with terroristic threatening, aggravated assault and second degree battery. All three charges are felonies. Talley allegedly confronted his ex-wife, Theresa, and a male friend of hers, Chris Nash, reportedly placing a gun to Nash's head, ordering him to leave the premises. As Nash was leaving, Talley reportedly shot at him, then turned and struck his ex-wife about the head with the weapon. She was taken to Medical Park Hospital, where she was treated and released. Talley is scheduled to appear in court Monday, Jan. 12. Otherwise, Westmoreland said, it was a quiet holiday season for the NCSO and PPD. Normally, the Christmas season has a series of residential and vehicular burglaries. This didn't happen this year in either the city or county. Additionally, the New Year's holiday saw little for law enforcement officers to do, as there were few arrests made for drinking and driving. While Westmoreland and Prescott Police Chief Willie Latin had no idea why the holidays were quiet, they were grateful little happened. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
