Classy Moments

Published Wednesday, January 7, 1998 in the Gurdon Times

Happy New Year! We are back and ready to get back to work at GMS. We are hearing about the wonderful vacations several students and teachers enjoyed during the holidays, as well as how good Santa Claus was to them. Also, we hear rumors that it was very difficult for some to come back, but that is difficult to believe.

GMS was saddened to hear about Mr. Gills, but so grateful that he is doing well, and hopefully he will be back on the job soon.

The day we dismissed school for the holidays, the GMS Student Council conducted a Talent Show assembly. Entertainment was enjoyed by all, as many of the students shared their talents. Several of the teachers presented the 'Sister Act.' Finally Mrs. Clingan got to sing! It was a good thing we were getting out of school for a few days after that. (Only being truthful, Mrs. Clingan).

Mr. Wimberly graciously "blew" the new horn the band was able to purchase with a grant from the Cabe Foundation. Maybe Kenny G would enjoy taking lessons from our band director. Thanks for making beautiful music, Mr. Wimberly.

The 'Citizen' students for December were: fifth grade, Michael Benson; sixth grade, Natacha Austin; seventh grade, Tracey Coplen; and eighth grade, Kenard Pegram.

As we have started a new semester we will be very busy, but always have the time for a visit from you. Thanks for taking time to show you care about us as we make Classy Moments at GMS.
