Gurdon Holidays Quiet

BY JOHN MILLER
Published Wednesday, January 7, 1998 in the Gurdon Times

Gurdon was quiet during the Christmas and New Year's Day holidays.

City Marshal David Childres said the only calls received by the Gurdon Police Department on New Year's Eve were for fireworks being shot off, otherwise little went on.

Normally, there is a rash of residential and vehicular burglaries committed during the Christmas holiday, while New Year's has a number of drinking and driving charges filed against motorists who imbibe too much.

"We've been doing our job," Childres said, but had no other explanation for why the holidays were so quiet.

Regardless of the reason, he said the GPD is glad the holidays passed with few incidents.
