Military NewsPublished Wednesday, January 14, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesArmy National Guard Pvt. Clinton A. Perkins has graduated from basic military training at Fort Benning near Columbus, Ga. During the training, students received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, history and traditions. Perkins is the son of Ricky A. and Shelia D. Perkins of 5571 Highway 67 South in Gurdon. TITLE TIME While residents of Green Bay, Wisc., call their home "Titletown," Gurdon's senior boys basketball are working to create a similar title for their hometown. Last week, the Devils ran rampant through the opposition en route to the championship of the Southwest Arkansas Invitational Tournament in Saratoga. The Devils basted the host Bulldogs 95-60 for the title. IT'S MINE Players for the Genoa Central Lady Dragons tried to lay claim to this basketball during their game against the Gurdon Lady Devils, but found out how ball is played at Gurdon. The Lady Devils eliminated the Lady Dragons from the Southwest Arkansas Invitational Tournament, played in Saratoga, with a 51-44 win. They went on to meet Prescott in the finals Saturday night, but were unable to stop the Wolverette attack. POOL SHARKS Chris Kinder, left, was an eight-ball pool tournament held recently at Frank's Place in Gurdon, by beating Mark Wingfield in the finals. The two were the survivors of a 26 man field.
