John Thomas Seeks Judge's Position As Democrat Candidate

A local attorney, John Thomas, has announced his intention to run for Circuit/Chancery Judge of the Ninth Judicial District-East, which consists of Clark County.

Thomas has been in the general practice of law since 1980. He served eight years as deputy prosecuting attorney and as prosecuting attorney from July 1990 until January 1, 1991, when he took office as municipal judge.

He is currently serving his second four-year term as municipal judge.

He was elected in 1996 to serve as the representative of the Fourth Congressional District on the board of directors of the Arkansas Municipal Judges' Association and also serves on the educational committee of the association.

Thomas graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in 1974 and upon graduation served in the U.S. Army with the 1st Infantry Division Forward in Germany until 1977, when he returned to attend the University of Arkansas School of Law. He obtained his juris doctor degree in 1980.

Judge Thomas and his wife, Martha, have teen-aged daughters, Kara and Emily.

"I am a life-long resident of Clark County and have practiced law here for over 17 years, he said in a prepared news release.

"I have learned a great deal from my years as a private attorney, deputy prosecuting attorney, prosecuting attorney and municipal judge" the release continued. "I believe I have the background and experience to do a good job for the people of Clark County."

The Ninth Judicial District-East Judgeship is subject to the primary elections to be held in May and the general election in November.
