Leon H. Shannon

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 1998, at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Santa Marie, Calif., for Leon H. Shannon, 66 of Granbury, Texas. Pastor James W. Zielke officiated with burial in Santa Marie Cemetery.

Mr. Shannon died January 1 from injuries due to an accidental fall.

He was born January 19, 1931, in Hiawatha, Kans. He had an agricultural engineering degree from Kansas State University and an aerospace engineering degree from Pennsylvania State University. He was a resident of Santa Maria from 1970 to 1987. He spent the last 3 + years in Granbury, Texas.

Mr. Shannon retired from the U.S. Air Force as a major in 1974, serving over 20 years as a pilot. From 1974 to 1994, he worked in the aerospace industry, having worked on the Lockheed space shuttle program and for Northrup Corporation. He was involved in real estate for the last 27 years. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Granbury, Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon K. Shannon of Granbury, Texas; daughters Sandra Craig of Hollister, Calif., Lee Mason of Kalispell, Mont., Rita Shannon of Santa Maria and Laura Groneberg of Glendale, Calif.; a sister Dawn McLelland of Prescott; six grandchildren; and four nieces and nephews.

Mr. Shannon was preceded in death by an infant daughter Hilda Rae Shannon in 1964.
