Helping Hands EHCPublished Wednesday, January 14, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneBluff City Helping Hands Extension Homemakers Club met January 8 for its regular meeting. Due to several different reasons there were only six members present. The members were honored to have Candace Carrie meet with them. The meeting was called to order by Marguarite Tomlin, president. The door prize was won by Oleta Nelson. There will be a meeting later on handling stress. It should help all of us. Roll call was answered with "my goal for 1998". Anyone interested in helping to finish blocks for a quilt should come to the Extension office Wednesday, January 21, at 9:30 a.m. Monday, January 19, lessons will be given on less fat in cooking to help lose weight. The program, 'Sandwich a Healthier life,' will be held at the Extension in Prescott. The club's program was presented by Miss Carrie on how to plan for any emergency when traveling. Everyone who travels would need a survival kit, she said, whether it is a long or short trip. For information on what you need, you can call Miss Carrie at the Extension office, 887-2817. The meeting was adjourned and potluck was enjoyed by all. Miss Teen Southwest Arkansas Mistie Holley, left, and Miss Southwest Arkansas Shari Payne will be the featured performers for a benefit show January 31 in Ashdown. Rachael Dougan will also be entertaining. Show place is the Ashdown Jamboree at 7:00. Tickets are $7. For reserve tickets, call Mistie Holley at 887-1888. The show is to support Mistie and Shari on their way to the Miss Arkansas Pageant. The Nevada Elementary School first grade teachers hosted the North Central, Outcome Accreditation monthly meeting recently. The meeting was divided into 'hands on math,' developed by TERC (Technical Education Research Center) and framework revision. The staff is mapping the curriculum for alignment from objectives to assessment. Dr. Debe Kincaid of SAU is continuing her work at the staff's request. Door prizes were provided by merchants in the Golden Triangle and Entergy. Entergy is a partner to Nevada Elementary School in Rosston.
