Applications Sought For Ark. Program

Applications are now available for Arkansas cities interested in joining the Main Street Arkansas downtown revitalization program, which has served as a catalyst for development and preservation of historic commercial areas across the state for more than 10 years, Main Street Arkansas State Coordinator Marian Boyd announced last week.

Main Street Arkansas is a program area of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, an agency of The Department of Arkansas Heritage.

"We are asking cities with a genuine interest in bringing new life to their downtown areas to join the Main Street Arkansas network," Boyd said. "Cities that demonstrate local commitment and broad-based community support can use the Main Street four-point approach to attract business and shoppers to an area of town that has been, and can again be, a vibrant commercial district."

The Main Street Arkansas staff is available between March 1 and April 15 to assist interested cities in preparing its applications. All applications are due by April 30, and new Main Street cities will be announced in June.
