A representative of the Texarkana Social Security office will be at the Nevada County Courthouse on Thursday, October 28; Tuesday, November 23, and Tuesday, December 21. Supplemental security income (SSI) pays monthly checks to people who are aged, disabled or blind and who do not own much or have much income. SSI is not just for adults. To find out if you are eligible, call 1-800-772-1213. The Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring a Halloween costume contest for all area business employees. This contest will take place Friday, October 29. A judging team will come around to your business to judge you while at work. Money awards will be given. First place will be $20; second place - $15 and third place - $10. If you would like to enter call Mary Godwin at 887-2101 by October 28. There is no entry fee. There will be a ribbon-cutting and open house at Nevada County Recycle and Work Center at 314 E. Second South Thursday, October 28, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The ribbon-cutting will take place at 10 a.m. The chamber would like to invite everyone to attend this special occasion to see this new building. The Emmet School board will have its regular monthly meeting Monday, November 1, at 7 p.m. in room 4. The agenda will include elementary and high School principals' reports, superintendent's report and personnel matters. Stacy and Lisa Adams of Prescott are proud to announce the arrival of their son, Thomas Bailey, on Tuesday, October 12, 1999. He weighed seven pounds and was 20 inches long. Proud grandparents are Derris and Sandra Dillard and Joye Adams all of Prescott. A revival will be held at the Chuck Wagon in Emmet Saturday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 7 at 2:30 p.m. The evangelist will be Dorthy Mason and party. Sunday there will be lots of gospel music and refreshments. There will be a meeting of the board of directors of Southwest Arkansas Planning and Development District Wednesday, Nov. 3 at Western Sizzlin in Hope. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. There will be a singing at Morris Baptist Church Thursday, October 28, at 7 p.m. This will be the last singing this year. Everyone is invited. Morris Baptist will also have fifth Sunday fellowship on October 31 with lunch and singing in the afternoon. Larry and Julie Little of Shreveport, La., are proud to announce the birth of their first child, Jonathan Crews Little. Jonathan was born Tues., Sept. 16, 1999, at 1:14 a.m. He weighed 6 pounds and 11 ounces and was 19 inches long. Proud grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Danny Fitzpatrick of Emerson and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dorman of Bodcaw. Great grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Everett Fitzpatrick of Stamps; Mr. and Mrs. O.B. Burns of Magnolia; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Little of Pittsburg, Kans., the late Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Crews of Pittsburg, Kans and Mr. Olva Dorman of Bodcaw. Nevada County Retired Teachers will sponsor a 55 Alive AARP Safe Driving School October 28 and 29 at First United Methodist Church from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Harold Wilson from Texarkana will be the instructor.
