Pollution Committee Meets For ChangesPublished Wednesday, January 21, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesThe Arkansas Pollution Control and Ecology Commission and one of its standing committee will meet January 23 at the Arkansas Department of Pollution Control and Ecology's Building G Commission Room, located in the Arkansas State Police Headquarters Building, No. 1 State Police Plaza, near the intersection of Geyer Springs Road and Interstate 30 in southwest Little Rock. Persons planning to attend the meetings should arrive a few minutes early to allow time to obtain a visitor's pass to the State Police Building. The Commission's Regulations Committee will meet at 8 a.m. to consider recommendations to the full commission involving proposed changes to Commission Regulations No. 2 (water quality standards) and 10 (waste water treatment plant construction assistance). The Regulations Committee also will consider a request for emergency rule making action for Regulation No 23 (hazardous waste code) involving the Reynolds Metals Company. The full commission meeting will begin at 9 a.m. In addition to the recommendations from the Regulations Committee, the commissioners will consider a recommendation from its Appeals Committee concerning whether to allow L&L Oil Co. of Mountain Home to proceed with an appeal of a denial of its request to be reimbursed for funds spent in cleaning up a leaking gasoline tank. Other items on the commission agenda include presentation of status reports on the cleanup of hazardous substances found on and off site at the Helena Chemical Co. facility in Phillips County; the permitting process involving the proposed nerve gas incinerator at the Pine Bluff Arsenal; the department's bi-monthly report on Crooked Creed in north Arkansas; and an update from the special commission committee investigating issues involving the Reynolds Metals Company facility in Gum Springs.
