When push came to shove this holiday season, the people of Prescott and Nevada County were there to help.

A food drive and angel program was held by the Department of Human Services, in conjunction with Beverly Health and Rehab, the Nevada County Ambulance Service, many area churches and the Prescott Pageant Committee.

This drive rounded up some 65 bags of groceries for needy families in the area, thereby making the holidays brighter for everyone.

The Prescott Swamprider motorcycle club also got into the act by bringing toys to the DHS office for children. Some 110 children were visited by angels for Christmas.

'We can look around our world and always find someone who is less fortunate than ourselves," Twyla Arnett, county DHS administrator said. "Hopefully, we can carry the Christmas spirit through our daily lives in the new year."

The Prescott High School workplace readiness class participated in a ten-week simulation called "The Stock Market Game, which was sponsored by Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. The game introduces students to the American economy, world finance and market investing while providing a way of learning about the stock market. The students used the Internet to play the game. In the game, teams are given an imaginary $100,000 to invest in common stock. Stocks may be purchased on the New York Stock Exchange, the American Stock Exchange or the NASDAQ. The following Prescott High School students placed third in the high school division in the state, l-r, Ryan Ellis (captain of team), Kim Chambliss, Jessie Ward and Mike Fountain.
