Filing Fees Set For Democratic Primary

Those planning to seek public office had better check their bankrolls.

The Nevada County Democratic Committee has set filing fees for the upcoming Primary election, scheduled for May 19, 1998. According to Davis Benton, committee chairman, the filing period will be from noon Tuesday, March 17 until noon Tuesday, March 31 in the lobby of the Nevada County Courthouse.

Four offices will carry filing fees of $750 this election. Anyone running for Mayor of Prescott, Nevada County Judge, Nevada County Sheriff or Municipal Judge will pay this fee.

Those seeking office of County Clerk, Circuit Clerk, County Tax Assessor of County Treasurer will have to fork over $600 as their filing fee.

Candidates for justice of the peace will pay $75, as will those who run for aldermen in the city of Prescott, and for Prescott City Recorder.

Any candidates for the Nevada County coroner post will have a filing fee of $50.

However, anyone seeking a constable's position will have no fee to pay.

These fees are only for those candidates running as democrats during the primary election.

According to Ken Karmel, chairman of the Nevada County Republican Committee, no one has shown interest in seeking office as a member of the GOP, and the committee has not met to set filing fees.
