Beirne Rural Fire Department is having a chili supper February 7 from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Beirne Fire Station. The cost will be $5 per plate and refills on chili only. There will be chili, drinks, Fritos, onions and desert. Come on out and support your local fire department. Everyone is welcome.


The Festival of Two Rivers in Arkadelphia is accepting appli-cations for its 1998 Arts and Crafts Show. The festival will be April 10 and 11 in downtown Arkadelphia. Rental fee is $35 per 10x10 booth. Electricity is provided for those who wish to demonstrate their craft. This show is open to all handmade arts and crafts, pottery, ceramics, wood crafts, and jewelry.

Interested persons may receive an application through the Arkadelphia Area Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 38, Arkadelphia, or by calling 870-246-5542. Deadline is March 15.


The Arkansas Picnic Group of Clark County will meet in the home of Virgil and Betty Calhoun at Malvern on Saturday, February 14, at 6:00 p.m.


Alcoholics Anonymous meets on Wednesdays and Sundays at 8:00 p.m. at the American Legion building, Highway 67 North, one mile out of Gurdon.

Narcotics Anonymous meets in Gurdon every Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 206 East Main. For more information, call 353-6612.

Grades Proudly Shine Club at Gurdon Primary School represents a group of students showing improvement in their grades during a given time. These third and fourth grade students shown improved their grades five percent without any grades declining. Over 275 junior high dchool youths and adults from across the state attended the 1997 South Junior High Governor's Youth Conference on Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia. Those from Gurdon Middle School who attended were, l-r, Eddie Fort, Patricia Hanmonds, Rayanne Ross, Lavonda Buford, Principal Jeff Alexander and Jake Plyler.
