Tourneys SetBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, February 11, 1998 in the Gurdon Times It's tournament time for teams in the 7A Central district. The district tournament will be held at Gurdon this year, with the tourney set to begin Monday, Feb. 16, ending Saturday, Feb. 21. Gurdon's senior boys, by virtue of winning the conference outright, earned a bye until the finals Saturday night. To make matters worse for the rest of the league, the Devils are still ranked first in class A, and are showing no signs of letting up until the finals of the state tournament are over with in March. Stephens, the second place team, won't hit the hardwood until Friday evening. Action on the boys side of the bracket begins Monday at 7:45 with Nevada tangling with Genoa Central. Tuesday night at 7:45, the Stamps Yellow Jackets will lock horns with the Lewisville Red Devils. The winners of Monday's and Tuesday's games will meet again at 7:45 p.m. Thursday, with the winner earning a date with Stephens' Roadrunners Friday. On the senior girls' side of the bracket, Stephens earned the week off and won't play until Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Gurdon's Lady Devils finished in second place and can rest until Friday at 6:30. Monday sees the Lady Dragons of Genoa Central meet Stamps in the opening round at 6:30. On Tuesday night, also at 6:30, the Lady Blue Jays of Nevada will be tangling with the brutally physical Lady Red Devils of Lewisville. The winners of Monday's and Tuesday's wars will meet on the battlefield Thursday. Thursday's victor will have no easy task Friday night when they meet Gurdon. The top four finishers in the district tournament will earn positions in the regional tilt. This year the regional tourney will be played at Center Point. The regional event is scheduled from Feb. 23-28. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
