When Genoa and Gurdon senior girls first met this season, the Lady Devils eked out a three- point win.

Tuesday, when the Lady Devils made the trip to Genoa Central, the final margin was a bit different as Gurdon posted a 63-49 victory.

The first period was close as Gurdon took a 16-13 lead into the second quarter.

This is when the Lady Devils began pulling away. Tameka Hatley, LaVonda Young and Dawana Stuckey took control of the game as Gurdon fired up its offense for 23 in the frame and led 39-26 at the break.

Genoa scored 13 points for the third straight period as the Lady Dragons cut into Gurdon's lead somewhat in the third frame, but still trailed 49-39 heading into the final eight minutes.

The fourth quarter saw Gurdon outscore the home team 15-10 for the win.

Young, with Alicia Clayborn still out with an ankle injury, has taken over leadership of the Lady Devils, as she scored 24 to lead all others. Hatley tossed an even dozen into the mix, while Jessica Rainey played string music for 10.

Lindy Stevens led Genoa with 15, while Shanna Humphries scored 12.

The Lady Devils didn't fare too well at the line as they only netted four of 13. Genoa shot slightly better than 50 percent at 16 of 30.

LADY HORNETS 38

The Lady Devils were poor hosts Friday night as they stepped all over the Lady Hornets of Blevins 57-38.

Gurdon opened the game by doubling the amount scored by their foes in the first period, 10-5, and followed this by pouring another 16 into the mix by halftime to lead 26-18.

Blevins managed to keep the lead at 10 when the third quarter was over, but still trailed 37- 27.

However, the Lady Devils blew the game open in the final eight minutes as they outscored their opponents 20-11.

Hatley took over duties as scoring leader with 15 for the Lady Devils, while Rainey added 14 more.

J. White was the lone Lady Hornet in double figures with 11.

The Lady Devils spent a good deal of time at the free throw line and did relatively well as they hit 21 of 43.

Blevins also saw too much time at the line and netted 17 of 31.
