Prescott Graduate Pens BookPublished Wednesday, October 27, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayunePrescott High School graduate David Osborn recently wrote and published Squirrel Dog Basics: A Guide to Hunting Squirrels with Dogs. He is the son of Mrs. Pat Hignight of Prescott. Osborn's book, printed in April, provides information on understanding and participating in this exciting, rapidly growing canine sport. This year, about 200 advertised squirrel dog competitions will draw thousands of enthusiasts and their dogs. Many more thousands will take to the woods to participate in this revival of small game hunting. Squirrel Dog Basics the first and only book dedicated to the sport provides the novice with enough information to get started, and has plenty of information for more experienced hunters. After moving from Prescott in 1982 Osborn attended Arkansas Tech University and Texas Tech University, earning degrees in wildlife biology. He was employed as a wildlife biologist for the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. He is currently employed as a wildlife research coordinator at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. His duties include management of the University's white-tailed deer research facility and coordination of various wildlife research projects. He has authored or co-authored about 30 wildlife-related technical publications. When not working, he enjoys hunting squirrels and white- tailed deer. He and his wife Sandra own nine dogs, of which five are squirrel dogs. Squirrel Dog Basics can be ordered by sending $18.50 plus $4 shipping and handling to: Treetop Publications, P.O.
