Rep. Percy Malone Seeking ReelectionPublished Wednesday, February 11, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesPERCY MALONE State Rep. Percy Malone, who is concluding a successful second term in the Arkansas Legislature, announced Monday he will seek a third term as the State Repre-sentative for District 36. "I have enjoyed serving the people of my district and want to return to the legislature to continue the job I started," Malone in a prepared statement. "During my first two terms, I have been fortunate to be placed on many important committees such as the Judiciary Committee, Insurance and Commerce, Joint Committee on Energy, and the Joint Committee on Advanced Communications and Information Technology. "I am the current vice-chairman of the Joint Budget Committee, and look forward to serving as co-chair," he said. During his first two terms, Malone sponsored or co-sponsored many legislative bills on behalf of his constituents. These include several bills for economic development, which will help attract industry to Arkansas and will aid existing industries. Malone has sponsored several ethics bills, which clarified conflict of interest and nepotism in the State Boards and Commissions. Of the legislation which Malone sponsored in the 1997 session, he is very proud of his bill which requires all public schools to teach a course regarding the safe preparation of food for human consumption. Malone, well-known as a civic leader and chairman of the Arkadelphia 2025 Commission, an effort to rebuild Arkadelphia, has produced numerous good things for District 36. Under his leadership, one and one-half million dollars have been allocated for the Clark County area due to the heavy loss of property and life from the tornado last year on March 1. Malone has been instrumental in securing grants which have aided projects in his district, including funding for improvements to Gurdon City Hall. He also helped secure funds for the Okolona and Gurdon Fire Departments, the Clark County Courthouse, the Clark County Fair Association, the Clark County Industrial Access Road and many grants for surrounding communities. "I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the people of Arkadelphia for their continued support," Malone said. "I hope to have the opportunity to continue to serve the needs of the people in this district." Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
