The theme for this year's contest is "Boats, Bridges and River Towns," and all art and essays should focus on historic properties with the many rivers and streams that flow through the Natural State.

First-place winners in each division will receive $100 savings bonds and second- place winners will receive $50 savings bonds donated by the Historic Preservation Alliance of Arkansas.

All winners, including honorable mention recipients, will receive other historic preservation prizes.

Winning entries will be displayed in the Arkansas State Capitol during May, which is Arkansas Heritage Month and also contains national Historic Preservation Week.

The contest is open to all fifth-grade students in Arkansas. All entries must be postmarked no later than April 15.
