College NewsPublished Wednesday, February 18, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneDella Tyronda Miller, a graduate of Prescott High School and a student at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope, has been awarded a band performance scholarship to Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia. The scholarship has a value of $924. Miller was named to the chancellor's honor roll in college, and was a member of a number of organizations in high school, including Future Business Leaders of America, Prescott High School Band, National Honor Society, Key Club and the Quiz Bowl Team. She was an honor graduate in high school. Miller was also named a Good Citizen by the Daughters of the American Revolution while she was in high school. Miller plans to major in mathematics at SAU. She is the daughter of Herbert and Lois Adams of Prescott. Jessie Ward, a 1998 graduate of Prescott High School, has been awarded a Presidential Scholarship at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope. The scholarship is based upon an ACT score and grade point average, and a recommendation from a school official. Ward is the daughter of Ned and Karen Ward of Prescott. She will be pursuing an associate of arts degree. The Office of Academic Affairs at Henderson State University announced its 165 collegians who earned dean's list status for the fall semester, 1995. Dr. Robert Houston, vice pres-ident of academic affairs, said that in order to qualify for the dean's list, students had to earn a perfect 4.00 on 12 or more semester hours of course work. Approximately 394 students made the university's honor roll for the fall term. According to Houston, students on the honor roll were required to earn a 3.50 grade average on 12 or more semester hours. Making the dean's list from Prescott was Carolyn Davis. Students making the honor roll from Prescott were Kristi Ammons, Krista Burton, Lee Carman, Jaslyn DeWoody, Traci Ellis, Jerri Glass, Melanie Glass, Mendy Jester, Jonathan Martin, Phillip Pine, Patsy Wesson and Lori Williams. Laura Louise Deon of Prescott was named to the dean's honor roll at Xavier University of Louisiana. Her grade point average is 3.9. In honor of such outstanding accomplishments, a special celebration was held February 15 in the college auditorium. Deon is the daughter of Harding and Hyacinth Deon of Prescott.
