Crews Called Out to Fix Roads and electrical LinesBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, February 18, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune Storms raged through Nevada County Tuesday night, Feb. 10, leaving several trees down and knocking out power. According to Nevada County Judge James Roy Brown, trees were down all over the county, with the southern sector hit the hardest. However, he said, the county road crews worked diligently to get the roads open as quickly as possible so people could get where they were going. In addition to trees being down, several culverts were also damaged, he said. But, with the severity of the storm and the amount of rain that drenched the region, the total amount of damage done won't be known for a while. Low lying areas were still underwater as of Friday, with some still underwater over the weekend. "If we get another rain like that," Brown said, "it'll be bad and we'll have a lot of washouts." Brown said the Nevada County Rescue Unit, along with the Nevada County Sheriff's Office helped in the clearing of county roads after Tuesday's storm. The main roads were the first to be cleared, with the secondary roads seeing the debris removed as crews could get to them. At one time, Brown said, half the county was without power, but the electricity has since been restored. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
