Golden OldiesPublished Wednesday, February 18, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesBy Doris Vance Last week was a very exciting time for the Gurdon Adult Center. The Valentine King and Queen contestants worked very hard to win. Many pies, cakes and fried pies were auctioned to gain votes. Bernice Freeman and Bennie Freeman were crowned as King and Queen for 1998, with a total of $600. Harrell and Geneva Everett were runners-up. The total raised by all the contestants was over $1,500. As this was a fund- aising event for the center, it was greatly appreciated and was also a lot of fun. Kathlene Cox, Allie Trout, Gene Barton and Billy Francis each won a bag of candy, and Stella McClure won a box of candy. Friday afternoon a group from the center went on a trip to Hope. The center will have several speakers this week, one from the Central Arkansas Co-op and State Sen. Mike Ross will speak Friday, February 20. Our love and prayers are with Gladys Sherman, who is still unable to be with us. We send our sympathy to Sybil Harris for the loss of her husband. There will be other events during the month. New people have been attending and we welcome each one. The center is a great place to attend as this writer very well knows. We encourage each one to take advantage of the services that the center has. The center is a United Way Agency. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
