Church Women MeetPublished Wednesday, February 18, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesJanet Toland hosted the February 9 meeting of the Women of the Church of God (WCG). WCG members present were Rhoda Spruill, Doris Vance, Eulah Wilson, Shirley Smithpeters, Vivian Spruill, Janet Toland, Velvet Gonzales, and Rhonda Spruill. New officers were elected and will be inducted at a later date. The lesson entitled, "One Foot in Each World: Philip and Cross- Cultural Ministry," was written by Brenda Champney, a former member of the National WCG board. The scriptural text is found in Acts 8:26-40. This tells the story of Philip, one of the twelve disciples and a Greek-speaking Jew, who converted an Ethiopian court official to Christianity. The lesson explored the multi-cultural society of the New Testament. Each member was encouraged to make a commitment to effective ministry in the increasingly multi-cultural society in which we live. Following the Bible study, the ladies sang "Jesus Loves the Little Children" and then closed with a prayer for the multi-cultural ministries being practiced in Gurdon. In addition, a prayer of protection and leadership for our missionaries around the world was spoken. Later, the group enjoyed refreshments prepared from Mexican, Italian and Chinese recipes.
