Eileen E. GrayPublished Wednesday, October 27, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneEileen E. Gray, 75, Jonesboro died Wednesday, October 20, 1999, at her residence. She was a native of Corby North Hamptonshire, England, and had lived in Newport before moving to Jonesboro. While in England, she served in her Majesty Auxiliary Territory Service. She married Cyrus R. Gray Jr., in England and was one of 1,100 war brides who arrived in the United States abroad the USS Argentine in 1946. Mrs. Gray worked for the Newport School District and later was employed by Jackson County as a social worker. She lived in Prescott before living in Newport. She was a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church in Newport. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cyrus R. Gray Jr., two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include one son, John Robert Gray of La Mirada, Calif.; three daughters, Ginny Gray Hanner of Fredricktown, Mo., Linda Gray Cayla of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Brenda Gray Osborn of Jonesboro; three brothers, Ivan Smith, Terry Smith and Brian Smith all of England; seven grandchildren; and one great grandchild. A memorial service was held Sunday, Oct. 24, at St. Paul Episcopal Church with Rev. John Childress officiating. Burial was private. Those wishing to leave a lasting memorial are asked to consider the Cornea Dysfunctional Research, St. Bernard's Hospice program, or the National Pancreas Foundation.
