There will be a band fund-raiser March 3-10. All products ordered should be in around the 26th of March. The money will be used for the band to take a trip. Your help is needed in funding this educational and fun trip for the band members, Allen Wimberly, band director, said. Money is also needed for music and equipment needs as well as repairs, he said.


First United Methodist Church of Gurdon will have its annual fish supper Thursday, February 27, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Takeouts are welcome.


World Day of Prayer will be held Friday, March 6, at 6:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Gurdon. Everyone is invited to attend. World Day of Prayer has been sponsored by Church Women United for 110 years.

The 111th World Day of Prayer program has been written by Christian Women of Madagascar. All churches are invited to attend.


Revival services will be held at New Caney Baptist Church March 1-4. Sunday evening services will start at 6:00 p.m. Other services start at 7:00 p.m. Mike Edmondson will hold the services.


An organizational meeting for the reunion of the class of 1978 will be held March 8 at 2:00 p.m. at 804 Beech in Gurdon.

Chris and Anita Shaver of North Little Rock are proud to announce the birth of their daughter. Lindsey Elise arrived at 11:31 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 1998, in St. Vincent's Infirmary. She weighed 6 pounds and 5 ounces and was 19 inches long.

Lindsey was welcomed by grandparents, Clark Sidney and Carolyn Thomas and Charles and Joe Ann Shaver. Her great grandparents are Mrs. A.C. Plyler and Harry Thomas and honorary great grandmother Mrs. Etta Windham.


March 1 is the deadline to sign up for debris removal from last year's tornado. The Emergency Watershed Program cost-shares 75 percent of the estimated cost to clean-up debris. Property owners are responsible for 25 percent of the cost.

Clark County Veterans Services is now open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more information, call 246-7321.


First Assembly of God Church at 11th and Walnut Street in Arkadelphia will be in a revival March 8 through 11. Evangelist will be Nathen Rogers. Services Sunday night will be at 6:00 p.m.; Monday through Wednesday night at 7:00.


Alcoholics Anonymous meets on Wednesdays and Sundays at 8:00 p.m. at the American Legion building, Highway 67 North, one mile out of Gurdon.

SMOKEY THE BEAR paid a visit to Gurdon Elementary School Friday, February 20, warning the children of wild fires. The students watched a film a wildfire that devastated several thousand acres in the western United States. A small bear cub, which was injured, but survived the fire, was named Smokey by the rangers. The children were admonished, "Only you can prevent wildfires."
