Core samples taken from the rural water system's tank came back approved by the Arkansas Department of Health.

This information was given to the Gurdon Water and Sewer Commission during its regular meeting this month.

Harold Hurst, department manager, said the new tank is now in operation, as is the new well for the rural system.

He said samples have been taken on the line east of the new tank, but the results of this test are not yet known.

The panel was informed G&S Trenching has not committed to installing the water line to the Greenville community.

Project engineer Charles Summerford said it is hoped the Rural Economical Community Development agency will allow the area to bid the job to another contractor.

The commission voted to transfer some of the funds in the department's checking account to a certificate of deposit.

Hurst informed the body the Whelen Springs water system is looking to expand its water line to include customers in the Kansas community. At this time, some 72 customers have signed up for city water.

The department, Hurst said, needs a truck to pull its backhoe and bulldozer from site to site. He suggested buying a used flatbed dump truck for the purpose.

The commissioners agreed and told Hurst to get prices on such a vehicle.
