PHS Basketball Squads Head To Regional Action At Fountain Lake (cont)

Scott Hobbs added 11 more with four 2-pointers and 3 out of 7 attempts from the line.

Calvin Flemons scored 7 points for the Wolves, Matt Brannan added 4, Joseph Dougan 2 and Scott Graham scored 1 point.

Coy Eaves was the leading scorer for Fouke with 8 points.

Prescott made 12 of 22 free throws while Fouke hit 11 of 17.

The win put the Curley Wolves in the semi-finals on Friday.

WEDNESDAY'S GAMES

Fordyce edged the Nashville Lady Scrappers 54-53 in the first contest Wednesday night to advance to the semi-finals.

Scoring in double figures for the Lady Redbugs was Andy Rankin with 20 points. Royanne Porter and Latesha Anderson scored 15 and 12 points respectively for Nashville.

The De Queen Leopards took a 49-44 victory from the Bismarck Lions in the second game on Wednesday night. Bismarck had led 9-5 after one quarter. The Leopards advance to the semi-finals.

In the last game last Wednesday, the Fountain Lake senior girls eliminated the Fouke Lady Panthers, 48-35, to advance to the semi-finals.

FRIDAY'S SEMI-FINALS

Four games were played in the semi-finals Friday night. The losers advanced to play in the consolation games Saturday. This determined which teams would be third and fourth in the regionals this week.

In the first game, the De Queen Lady Leopards advanced to the finals by beating the Fountain Lake Lady Cobras, 58-51. Julie Tollett led the winners with 18 points, Katie Stearns added 17 and Britney Chandler finished with 12 points. The leading scorer, however, was Felicia Johnston of Fountain Lake with 21 points.

In a very impressive win over De Queen, the Fountain Lake senior boys took a 55-38 win in the second game to advance to the finals. Nathan Chaney led the victors with 14 points and Josh Scrimshire added 12 more. John Hall and Michael Reynolds of De Queen, however, were the game's leading scorer with 15 points apiece.

The Wolverettes took the third game, 50-43, over the Lady Redbugs to advance to the finals.

The Prescott and Fordyce senior boys played the finals game in the semi- finals.

The Curley Wolves played a good game, but couldn't keep up with the Redbugs, as Fordyce advanced to the finals with a decisive 82-41 win.

Each team had two players scoring in double figures. The big difference, though, was the rest of the team. Fordyce had a total of 13 players scoring while the Curley Wolves only had four.

Leading the scoring was Kevin Williams of Fordyce with 22 points. Team mate Manny Reynolds scored 11 points.

Scott Hobbs of Prescott scored 15 points, hitting the net with seven 2-pointers and he was 1 for 2 at the charity stripe.

Heath Gammage followed with 14 points, connecting with six 2-pointers and 2 of his 4 free throws.

Tucker Baker added 8 points and Calvin Flemons scored 4 points.

The Curley Wolves hit 73 percent of their free shots (11-15) while the Redbugs made 58 percent (11-19).

Fordyce led Prescott 22-10 after one quarter, 47-18 at halftime and 64-24 after three periods.

CONSOLATION GAMES

In the first consolation game Saturday, the Fountain Lake Lady Cobras defeated Fordyce 55-49 to win the third place position in this week's regional tournament at Fountain Lake. Felicia Johnson scored 27 points to lead the victors.

The De Queen Leopards came out in third place in the boys' division, beating Prescott 46-39 in the second consolation game Saturday.

Prescott's leading scorer was Tucker Baker with 14 points. He connected with three 2-pointers, two 3-pointers and he hit 2 of his 5 free throws.

Others scoring for Prescott were Scott Hobbs with 7 points, Heath Gammage and Joseph Dougan each had 5 points and Edward Glenn and Calvin Flemons each scored 4 points.

John Hall scored 13 points for the winners as he scored five 2-pointers and 3 of 6 free shots.
