College NewsPublished Wednesday, February 25, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneGary Stovall, a 1998 graduate of Prescott High School, has been awarded a technical scholarship at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope. The scholarship is based upon an ACT score or grade point average plus a recommendation from a school official. Stovall is the son of Danny Stovall and Tina Ghaster of Prescott. He will be pursuing a degree in industrial electricity and industrial maintenance. Elizabeth Purtle from Prescott is among 2,026 students enrolled for the spring semester at Oklahoma State University in Okmulgee. OSU-Okmulgee is the only college in Oklahoma established specifically for technical education. It offers college-level technical-occupational programs of study in 11 major disciplines. Students graduating from OSU-Okmulgee can earn the associate of applied science degree and be certified by the college's unique graduate performance guarantee. Students enrolled for the fall semester represent 70 of Oklahoma's 77 counties and 20 other states. Purtle is enrolled in digital graphics technology. The Alumni Association at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia invites all alumni of the school to a special Mulerider gathering in Texarkana on Saturday, February 28. Alumni, their families and friends are invited to attend the evening of festivities in the Holiday Inn Millwood Room at 7 p.m. The evening will include a dinner catered by Red Lobster Restaurant and entertainment by the SAU Jazz Band. Dr. Steven Gamble, president of SAU, will be the featured speaker, discussing exciting new projects on campus. Tickets are $16 for adults and $11 for children ages 5 to 11.
