Into The VoidPublished Wednesday, October 27, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneTake Care Of My PlanetThis is my planet and if you don't want to take care of it leave. Don't give me this crap about not having anywhere else to go, or any way to get there, I don't care and don't want to hear it. If you refuse to take care of my planet, I don't want you on it. There is nothing more sickening than to see these motorized monsters belching their noxious fumes of the remains of carbon-based life forms turned into a petrochemical not be properly maintained and add to the pollution of the air. Yeah, I know I drive one, but it's kept up, so shut up and don't bother me about it. It's also disgusting to see litter scattered all along the roads, also created mostly from the remains of carbon-based life forms turned into petrochemicals, then glued to the surface of my planet. Only a moron would want to live in such filth, and I, people, am far from being a moron. Take any exit ramp along any interstate. Look, really look, not at the traffic, but instead at the filth on the sides of the ramp. There are idiots out there who put urine filled plastic bottles on the side of these ramps. There are also idiots who leave plastic bags filled with fecal matter there as well. This is not only intolerable, it is unsanitary and unhealthy. Guess what folks, it only takes a couple of minutes to use a public restroom, and no deadline is more important than keeping my planet healthy and beautiful. Then there are those who simply feel the need to wallow in garbage, much as a pig does in mud. They keep their homes, if they can be so called, surrounded by the remains of various mechanical monsters in different stages of being dismantled. Others simply toss the trash from inside to the outside, sharing their nasty habits with the rest of the world. These people should be horse whipped, but the ACLU (the American Communist Lifestyle Union as I call it) would get its legal team of sharks in a feeding frenzy and tie the issue up in court until Armageddon arrives. Frankly, the ACLU has also long outlived its usefulness and should be disbanded, but that's another story. I'm not talking about making drastic wholesale changes in anyone's life. No. All I'm saying is take care of the Earth. It's my home and I would like it to be properly maintained. This means when we, the pitiful excuse called a human race, create something, we should also create a means of disposing it that won't hurt the planet. And, no, dumping more crap into the oceans is not an acceptable answer. What I'm talking about is recycling, without worrying about making money off of the recyclable products. If we don't take care of the planet, good old Mother Nature will most assuredly take care of us and it won't be pleasant. We, as a species, need to be concerned with the legacy we leave for future generations, and not be so self-centered as to destroy what we have now. In science fiction earthlings are constantly flitting from planet to planet, finding plenty to inhabit. In reality, this doesn't happen. We don't have the technology to get to another planet, or even to find an inhabitable one. Therefore, it is only logical we take care of the Earth now. Otherwise, there will be no tomorrow's for our children or their children. Of course, those who don't want to help keep my planet clean can always charter a trip to Mercury. I hear the air there is so nice this time of year. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
