Lower Number Forces Administration ChangeBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, March 4, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune Nevada High School now has a part-time principal. In a special meeting of the Nevada School Board, Thursday, Feb. 26, a closed hearing was held at the request of NHS Principal Hardy Herrington. During this time he pled his case to remain full-time in the position. However, in its executive session, the board agreed to reduce the post to half-time status. Rick McAffee, Nevada superintendent, said the decision was based on the loss of students and had nothing to do with the job Herrington was doing for the district. Next year, McAffee said, the high school, grades 9-12, will only have 206 students. "It was a tough decision," McAffee said. "He's a good administrator and does a good job. There may be other cuts down the line because of the numbers." At this time, McAffee said, there are no positions open at Nevada. Herrington will work the first four periods of the day during his reduced duties. "This is no reflection on his performance," McAffee stressed.
