Pedigo Seeks Judge's JobPublished Wednesday, March 4, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneAttorney Jim Pedigo announces his candidacy for Circuit-Chancery Judge, division I, in the newly formed 8th Judicial District North. This position will serve Nevada and Hempstead counties beginning Jan. 1, 1999. Pedigo was born in Prescott and graduated from Prescott High School in 1964, and earned his bachelor's degree in education from Henderson State University in 1968. In 1969, Pedigo earned his Masters in Education from HSU through a NDEA graduate fellowship. For 10 years, he taught in public schools, primarily in Hope, and is the past president of the Hope Education Association. Pedigo returned to the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1979, graduating with a Juris Doctorate in 1981. Following his graduation from the UA, he returned to Hope and opened a general law practice, which he maintained through 1997. Pedigo has served as deputy prosecuting attorney in the 8th Judicial District from '82-'85, and was the Hempstead County public defender from 1992-96, expanding these duties to include Nevada County in 1997. Currently, Pedigo serves as the managing attorney for the State Public Defender Office in the 8th Judicial District South. He is licensed to practice in state and federal courts in Arkansas and the Eighth U.S. District Court and Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, and has presented oral arguments to the Arkansas Supreme Court. Pedigo is also a past member of the Hope School Board, serving from 1986-89, and has served as a mentor for the Spring Hill High School Moot Court Program. Additionally, he has ben employed as a faculty member at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope since 1991 ans proposed and developed the Criminal Justice Degree Program for the university. He has also taught courses in federal and state and local government, business law, criminal law, criminal procedure, juvenile justice, police and community, criminal investigation and other courses. He is the past president of the Hempstead County Bar Association. Pedigo is an active member of the Arkansas Volunteer Lawyers for the Elderly. Other involvements include: being a member of the Central Baptist Church in Prescott, past president of the Hope Jaycees and being designated Outstanding Young Man in America because of his community work. He and his wife, Janette, who in employed by St. James Day School, have three children. Pedigo is a democratic candidate for the May 19 preferential party primary. Tamera Marlar, DAR good citizen representing the senior class of Prescott High School, and her family were honored at the DAR Banquet recently. They are, l-r, Mildred Glass, great grandmother, Vicki Marlar, mother, Madeline Marlar, grandmother, Tamera Marlar, DAR good citizen, Maxine Freeman, grandmother, and Ricky Marlar, father of Tamera. The following students, along with their parents and family members, were honored for being the Benjamin Culp Chapter of the DAR essay contest winners at the DAR Banquet recently. They are, l-r, Debbie Bullock, Josh Bullock, fifth grade winner; William and Karen Taylor; Madeline Taylor, sixth grade winner; Megan Taylor, Madeline's sister; Jerrod Norwood, seventh grade winner; and his mother, Kerri Norwood. Jack Faulkner, president of the Emmet School board, is shown presenting Wayne Baker with a plaque honoring Baker for ten years of service to the Emmet School board. This presentation was made at the February 2 board meeting. FIRING AWAY Prescott's Traci Graham fires away during the Wolverette's loss to Drew Central in the second round of the class AA Regional Tournament Friday. The girls were cold when they hit the floor, while their opponents were hot. Still, the Wolverettes have made it to the state tourney, which will be played at Drew Central in Monticello.
