Teachers Attend Conference

Published Wednesday, March 4, 1998 in the Gurdon Times

Marianne Roe and Pam Runyan, teachers in the Gurdon School District, presented "Addition/Multi-plication Teaching and Learning Made Easy," created by Glenda Brown James from Benton, to educators from all over the United States at the national Title I Conference in San Antonio, Texas, in January.

Roe and Runyan, along with Bonnie Ross, Title I coordinator for the school district, were invited to present the program due to the success of this program at Gurdon Primary School for the students.

Students master all the addition and multiplication facts in just six weeks. Its design is to lessen the difficulty and minimize the time required in teaching the facts. The program was fully implemented last year in second and third grades.

Students average score increased plus 12.23 and plus 3.03 in Title I and averages for the whole grades increased in math plus 19 and plus 31 overall on the SAT-9 in the fall 1997.

This year district funded training for teachers in the first, fourth, fifth, and special education classes in "Addition/Multiplication Teaching and Learning Made Easy."
