Classy MomentsPublished Wednesday, March 11, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesThe first item of news is to thank the person for the safe return of the missing stool. The return made not only a certain teacher happy, but also her students. Friday, March 13, ends the third nine weeks period of this school year. Parent/teacher conferences will be held on March 19. It seems as though this school year has flown by for many of us, and, of course, it probably seems just the opposite to others. Monday was picture taking day for spring pictures and pictures of all groups, such as the GMS Student Council, Beta Club, pep steppers, quiz bowl, spelling bee, basketball teams, etc. Needless to say this took several moments to achieve. The finished photographs will be add so much to the yearbook and will be something for many to treasure for years. The band achieved first place rating of which we are very proud in a recent competition contest. Thanks for the hard work and dedication that each band member gives just to bring "honor" to the entire band. We are proud of you. Mrs. Hitt's choir achieved superior rating in the regional festival. It has been said before, but here it is again: Mrs. Hitt brings out talent that one may not know they had. She really works with her students and we do appreciate her efforts and results. We are proud of this group of students. Students had difficult decisions to make when asked to vote for Who's Who's at GMS. After considerable thought the results are: Most popular, Lyndi Esclante and Norris Glenn; most funny, T'Nesha Burton, Carl Washington, and J.T. Tarpley; most talented, Katie Barbaree, Lacey Jester and Noris Glenn; most friendly, Lyndi Escalante and Heath Griffin; most school spirit, Rayanne Ross and Heath Griffin; most athletic, Haley Griffin and Jake Plyler; most beautiful, Taylor Pace; and most handsome, Tommy Dickerson. The Class Favorites are: fifth grade Haley Griffin, Jake Curran and Hunter Johnson; sixth grade Jonathan Gonzales and Lindette Kaidari; seventh grade Tracey Coplen and Keiko Meeks; and eighth grade Lyndi Escalante and Norris Glenn. Congratulation to each. Mrs. Franklin, our counselor, is still enjoying her maternity leave, but did find time to bring that new baby for a visit. We were ready to enroll him, but mom thought she would wait a few years. Mrs. Karr, media specialist, held a book fair in the library. After a purchase, your name was added for the drawing of special prizes each day. When the intercom came on to make the announcements, it would get so quite in the classrooms, as so many were anxiously waiting for their names to be called and to go receive their prizes. It was a good book fair and the students enjoyed their purchases of books, posters, pencils and other items. We appre-ciate the time and hard work Mrs. Karr contributed to making this a big enjoyment and a big success. Mrs. Green had a big meeting with students interested in being a cheerleader for the school year of 1998-99. It would seems as though there are students in great number that attended the meeting. There were those who are very interested in becoming a cheerleader, but also those who attended the meeting just to get out of class as hard as that is to believe. We know Mrs. Green works long hours with the cheerleaders and we do appreciate all that she does to make a very special contribution to our school spirit being expressed. So much news and more to come while we make Classy Moments at GMS. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
