Classy Moments

Published Wednesday, October 20, 1999 in the Gurdon Times

We would like to thank each of you who helped make our carnival a big success. Fun and games were enjoyed by all. Every booth was occupied with eagerness to win the prize. The stop over for snow cones and cotton candy was a popular spot.

The dunking booth was not available, so a change was made to use water balloons. Jeff Alexander really got watered down and if there had been more balloons, well, there is not telling what might have happened. By the way, what happened to those other balloons?

A delicious chili supper topped with the best cinnamon rolls was most certainly a good reason for attending the activities of the evening. A big thank you to the cooks for working above and beyond what was expected.

The Go-Devil band earned a superior rating at the Four States marching contest held in Texarkana. The percussion and drum major earned the highest rating of superior, and the color guard earned a rating of excellence. Several eighth grade students are members of the high school band. Great job.

So many times we only hear about the "bad kid," but we are very proud of one of the eighth graders who were caught being good. Lavon Laster had made a purchase at the Beta store and realized after he left the room that they had given him a dollar too much change. Lavon immediately returned to Cena Clark and told her what had happened and gave her the dollar back. Lavon, we are very proud of you. What a great example you are to have at CMS.

We completed the first nine week period Thursday (difficult to believe). Parent-teacher conferences will be conducted Thursday, October 21, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m.

If pep rallies show the team spirit, then the junior high Go-Devils really had the spirit when they met Prescott. Gurdon won 38-12. The cheerleader of the week ended in a tie with Taylor Pace and Tamera Henry. The eighth grade athlete was Corey Parker.

Friday, October 22, school will be dismissed for teacher in-service. That's right, students do not attend school on that date.

Junior Beta Club is sponsoring Artistic Photos. This is an exciting concept of make-up and photography to bring out the best in you. This special event will take place Tuesday, October 26, by appointment only. If you are interested, call Linda Bullard at 353-4880 or 353-4311.

Plans are being made for Red Ribbon Week the last week of this month. Several activities for the students to be involved are on the schedule.

Once again, we say "come on out for a visit" if you have time and have not seen our home away from home.

We are always busy as we continue to make those Classy Moments at Cabe Middle School.
