eping weather records in Cale.

The normal amount of rain for March, Teeter said, is 5.25 inches, with the average temperature climbing to a balmy 64.3 degrees.

He said there are usually six weather watches or warnings posted in an average March as well.

Benton said a recent weather meeting was held in Prescott to make sure the area was ready for the severe weather season. The first week of March was designated as severe weather week in Arkansas.

He said more communication equipment will be purchased so the area's weather watchers can talk with the National Weather Service in either Little Rock or Shreveport, La.

"Spotters are still the number 1 line of defense," Benton said, talking about times of severe weather. "All area firemen and emergency personnel are trained weather spotters."

He said emergency warning sirens should be set up throughout the county by early April. These sirens will be set off if a tornado is spotted whether the area is under a watch or warning.

All volunteer fire departments will be cooperating in the effort, he said, with the sirens to be set off by the Nevada County Sheriff's Office once notice is received from the NWS.

"Nevada County is in as good a shape as any county in Arkansas for issuing weather warnings," he said.
