County Does WellPublished Wednesday, October 20, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesClark County faired well at the Arkansas State Fair. The junior livestock auction at the fair was held Friday, October 8, The premiums were awarded to 4-H Club and Future Farmers of America members who showed prize-winning market animals in judging events held earlier in the week. Ashley Webb of Gurdon, showing a hog, received a premium of $875 from Golden Eagle of Arkansas Inc., and Kristen Mallett of Arkadelphia received a premium of $800 from Bank of America. 4-H Day at the fair was sponsored by the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service. Awards went to Justin Hernandez for fifth place and Forest Cagle for seventh place in the category of giant watermelon. In the cattle judging on Thursday, October 7, Katherine McMichael of Okolona showed the grand champion bull and the Arkansas champion bull received blue ribbons in the open Brangus category.
