Yates Seeks State FBLA SpotPublished Wednesday, March 18, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe local chapter of Future Business Leaders of America at Prescott High School is planning a campaign for one of its local members. Jarrod Yates, a junior at PHS, is currently the local FBLA president, District IV president and the Arkansas state FBLA vice president for District IV. Yates is campaigning for state FBLA presi-dent. Candidates campaigning for a state office must give a speech, attend all caucuses and provide a booth at the FBLA State Conference. The campaign will be a costly effort and will take a tremendous effort from everyone involved. The election will be held at the FBLA State Conference in Little Rock April 17 and 18. Yates has been active in FBLA and has held several offices. He has participated in the local chapter's philanthropic projects such as March of Dimes, Arkansas Children's Hospital and the Leu-kemia Society. Yates has participated in the annual fish fry and candy sales, which raises money for the local chapter. Yates is active in PHS by participating in sports and clubs. He participates in football, baseball, track and golf. Besides FBLA, Yates has been involved in Key Club, National Honor Society, Science Club and Art Club. He has been voted class favorite for six years and has made the honor roll. In preparation for the state-wide campaign, Yates has assembled a campaign committee. His campaign manager is Lindsay Franks. Com-mittee members are Jarrod Miller, Tricia Thompson, Jessie Ward, Laura Johnston, Tamra Marlar, Al Johnston, Jana Barfield, Jessica Hendrix and Stacy Stockton. The committee members will be approaching local businesses for donations. Donations of pens, pencils, notepads, key chains and anything of the sort from local businesses will be appreciated. The businesses will get advertisements from these donations if the tangible items have the business name and/or logo. These items will be given to approximately 3,000 students who attend the state conference and visit the booth Yates is required to display. Monetary donations will also be appreciated greatly. Donations can be made to PHS-FBLA or contact Carie Maroon, Yates' adviser, at PHS at 887-3123 or you can call Yates at 887-3802. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
