The Sittin' Easy Club is still making cushions for the chairs at the center.

The Senior Prom will be a fund- raiser for the meals for seniors this year. It will be held the last of April at the Gurdon Senior Adult Center. The Arkadelphia Center will also have a prom.

The Gurdon Center hosted the dance at the Arkadelphia Center on Saturday, March 14. Everyone had a good time.

We have really been having good meals at the Gurdon Center. Everyone enjoys the delicious rolls that Barbara Weems makes.

The Cover Girls finished the quilt they were quilting just in time for the distribution of commodities. The center will began to distribute them on Tuesday, March 17, from 9 to 11 a.m. and from 1 to 3 p.m. If you need to be re-certified, stop by the center. You have to meet the income guidelines to be eligible to receive them.

Our activity director has deco-rated the building for Saint Patrick's Day and Beatrice Stafford decorated the birthday window for March.

We miss the ones who are not able to attend the center because of sickness. Bill and Nadine Logan have not been able to be out for sometime. Joe Smart's mother, Clemmie Clark, fell and broke her hip. She is in the hospital at Arkadelphia. We wish everyone a speedy recovery.

Saturday, March 13, there was an exchange student at the center. There are other events scheduled for March.

Come out and enjoy these good times with us. The center is a United Way Agency.

Fourth grade students at Gurdon Primary School participated in the "World's Largest Concert" on March 12. Over eight million school children across the country take part in this sing-a-long annually. This year's program, "Music Power," is part of a nation- wide emphasis on the importance of music education in the schools. The fourth graders, under the direction of Jerry Childers, performed for Pineview Nursing Home on March 10.

POSTER CHAMP Lezlee Carol White took the top spot in division two of the Lunchroom Poster Contest. The Gurdon Middle School fifth grader will have her poster entered in the state contest, which will be held in April. The theme of the contest is "Make Nutrition Come Alive."

BRIDGE WOES This bridge project, over Caney Creek, was originally to be done in 120 days, or roughly four months. However, the contract was let in 1996 and the bridge, as can plainly be seen, is yet to be finished. Residents, meanwhile, must make the best of a bad situation, as log trucks have been diverted down Stone Street, through residential neighborhoods, and 10th Street is in a poor state of repair leading to the bridge.
