College NewsPublished Wednesday, March 25, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesMichael Shane McBride, a senior at Gurdon High School, has been awarded a technical scholarship to the University of Arkansas Com-munity College at Hope. The scholarship is based on an ACT score and his grade point average, plus a recommendation from a school official. McBride is the son of Ronnie and Debbie McBride of Gurdon. He will be pursuing a degree in diesel technology. Rusty Michael Freeman, a senior at Gurdon High School, has accepted an academic scholarship to the University of Central Arkansas in Conway beginning with the fall term in August. UCA awards academic scholarships, renewable for four years, based on ACT scores and class rank, as well as National Merit and National Achievement competition. Freeman will receive the Presidential Scholarship for tuition, fees, room and board. He is the son of Judy and Eric Hittenrauch and Tommy Freeman, all of Gurdon. He is the vice president of the National Honor Society, treasurer of United Methodist Youth, a member of the Beta Club, Close-Up, Spanish Club, Who's Who Among American High School Students, newspaper staff and golf team.
