Miss Gurdon Lake Pageant Set

The sixth annual Miss Gurdon Lake Pageant will be held May 2, at 7:00 p.m in the Gurdon Middle School auditorium.

The featured entertainment for the pageant will be the appearance of the Marching Cobras from Kansas City, Mo. Tickets for the pageant are $2.50 for adults and $2 for children.

The pageant is sponsored by the Clark County Youth Development Center and has five divisions for girls and young women, infant to 21.

The divisions are: Infants to 4 years; Tiny Miss, 5-9; Pre-Teen, 10-12; Junior Miss, 13-15; and Miss Gurdon Lake Division, for girls 16-21.

Competition includes introduc-tion, sportswear, talent, evening gown and projection.

Infants-4 and Tiny Miss divisions will be judged on the amount of ads sales. The pre-teen division competes in introduction, talent, sportswear and dress wear and Junior Miss and Miss Gurdon Lake divisions compete in introduction, talent, swim wear, evening gown and projection.

The winners in each division will receive a trophy and a banner. The first and second runners-ups in each division will receive a trophy.

The purpose of the pageant is to raise funds to support worthwhile activities and projects in the community and to give young people an opportunity to perform on stage and to develop poise and self-esteem.

The Marching Cobras is a group of kids who are 7 to 17 and are members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City. They must maintain at least a C average in school to participate with the troupe.

The Cobras are under the direction of Willie Arthur Smith and have performed in more than 43 states, and as U.S. Ambassadors to France, performed in the Nice City Festival in 1991 and won three out of four national awards. They are the only group ever invited to return to the festival a second time.
