Oak GroveLula Q. KendrickPublished Wednesday, March 25, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune Spring revival was held at New Bethel AME Church in Rosston March 18, 19 and 20. Rev. C.V. Boyd from North Little Rock was the evangelist for the three nights. We really did have a good time. His choir was there Friday night. They really did sing good. Our former pastors' wife, Mrs. Mattie Scott, and daughter Kathleen Scott Wiley sang. Rev. Emis Montgomery was there two nights. He is pastoring at Beth Hill Circuit. Calvin Tidwell's wife from Hot Springs was there one night. Alvin Tidwell and wife have the Jenkins place looking nice. Oak Grove is getting on the ball. Clarence Gulley's house burned last week. We have a new mail carrier. Billy Wayne Jarvis, who retired, will be missed. Terrial Johnson of Cale is our new carrier. Ira J. Tidwell is having siding put on his house. It really looks good. District conference will be held April 17 and 18 at Whites Chapel AME Church with Rev. E. Jenkins, pastor; presiding Elder is Thomas Adair. Pre-Easter program for Young Circuit will be held on the first Sunday in April at New Salem AME. Young singers will sing at Oak Grove on the first Saturday in April at 6 p.m. Family and friends day at Oak Grove Baptist Church will be on the first Sunday in April with Rev. B. Young as pastor. Sunday school and usher day at Bethel will be on the second Sunday in April with guest speaker minister Tyrone Burnell of Hot Springs, formerly of Rosston, and Betty Sue Williams, Burnell's son, also from Hot Springs. Calvin Tidwell from Hot Springs spent the week with Calvin on her spring break and attended the spring revival. On April 4, our second quarter will be held at New Bethel AME Church in Rosston with Rev. Lessly Bank as pastor. Rev. Larry Banks preached at Bethel AME Church Sunday. His text was follow instructions. He really had it together. He really talked to our young people and old also. We need more sermons like that. Larry Banks is our pastor. Trustee musical will be held at Mt. Vernon AME Church in Stephens on Sun., April 5, at 2:30, Rev. Chester Fort, pastor. Bro. Ira J. Tidwell is in the hospital in Hope. Let's pray for him. He is the oldest man in our community. He was a faithful member in our church and also supt. of the Sunday school for years. There will be a musical program at Kendrick Chapel on Saturday, March 28, sponsored by deacon Winferd Mixon; pastor, Rev. J.W. McCraw. There will be a musical at Pleasant Grove on April 4 at 7 p.m. All the candidates are invited. Pastors aid program sponsored by Pauline Martin, pastor Rev. J.W. McCraw.
