Explorer Post MeetsPublished Wednesday, March 25, 1998 in the Nevada County PicayuneExplorer Post 80 of the Boy Scouts of America met February 22. In attendance were Shane Malory, Gus Kisselburg, Daniel Marlar, Cameron Simms, James Payne and Margie Payne. Guest speakers were Nate Hellums and Bill Vanscoy of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Hellums spoke to the Explorers about job opportunities in the Arkansas Game and Fish and explained how he got started. Much discussion followed about the law enforcement part of that state agency and how they work with the local sheriff and surrounding areas. Explorer Post 80 also met on March 8. In attendance were Shane Malory, Gus Kisselburg and Daniel Marlar. Members were given a final test. The Explorers had to learn the 10 codes used at the sheriff's office on the police radios. These teenagers cannot work with the radios until they know all the basic language used by the police officers. After the test, the guest speaker was State Trooper Darren Neal. Trooper Neal spoke to the Explorers about the Arkansas State Police organization. He explained what his job entails and how much authority he and other state troopers have.
