Trees Purchased For Prescott

Published Wednesday, March 25, 1998 in the Nevada County Picayune

In response to a request from the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce beautification committee, a number of Prescott clubs and organizations have purchased trees to be planted in Prescott in recognition of Arbor Day, which was March 17.

The groups which have purchased trees include the Lions Club, Rose Garden Club, Rotary Club, Nevada County Ambulance Service, The Partnership, FFA Alumni, Tri-Service Club, Nevada County Extension Homemakers Council, Nevada County 4-H, Ila's Club Women, Beautification Committee and Bank of Prescott.

A number of trees have been planted along the railroad tracks in the downtown area of Prescott. The design for the tree planting projects calls for trees to be planted from the Depot Museum to the Department of Human Services. The types of trees include red maple, ginkgo, crab apple, purple plum, crape myrtle and pecan.

There is still a need of trees to complete the project. The cost of a tree is $20. The beautification committee encourages any group or citizen of Prescott who wishes to participate in the project to call the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce at 887-2101.

"In a few more years the trees will have grown and will greatly enhance the looks of our town and our pride in our beautification efforts for years to come," Mary Godwin, manager of the chamber, said. "Remember we plant a tree for tomorrow the children and youth of Prescott. Help us with this project if you can," she encouraged.
