All city and county offices now have candidates for the May 19, preferential party primary.

James Roy Brown is the lone candidate for Nevada County Judge for the primary, while Julie Stockton is unopposed for the position of County Clerk. Carolyn Steed will have no challenger for the job of Circuit Clerk in the county either.

There are several contested races, though. Sydney DuCharme is being challenged by Karen Cobb for the county treasurer's position, while Pam Box and Judy Westmoreland are competing for the county assessor's office.

In the sheriff's race, Harold Vines and Steve Otwell are both hoping for a second term in the office.

For circuit/chancery judge, Judge Jim Gunter and Jim Pedigo are the candidates.

One of the justices of the peace races are contested. In district 3, Danny Miller is being challenged by Rudy Preston.

Otherwise, all districts only have one candidate. Gary Lewis is running in district 1; Willie Wilson in 2; Curtis Lee Johnson in 4; John Henderson in 5; Leo Holleman in 6; Adron Hicks in 7; Arual Mason in 8; and George Clary in 9.

Tommy Glass is also unopposed for the office of Coroner.

There are three men vying for the newly created circuit/chancery juvenile judgeship in district 2. The list is headed by Duncan Culpepper, with Joe Short and Keith Woods also running.

Two have tossed their hats into the ring for the office of Mayor of Prescott. Incumbent Howard Taylor is being challenged by political newcomer Ricky Ragsdale.

Two of the alderman positions are contested. In Ward 2 position 2, Danny Beavert and Elaine Williams are running, while Susie Meeks and Donna Wingfield are seeking the seat from Ward 4 position 2.

Otherwise, all other races for the city are uncontested.

Sandy Cason is running for City Recorder.

Steve Crow is seeking the spot of alderman for Ward 1 position 1, with Dick Bright running for Ward 1 position 2.

Howard Austin is seeking the seat from Ward 2 position 1, with Karen Ward running for Ward 3 position 1. Ann Stockton is running for Ward 3 position 2.

James Roy Cornelius is the lone candidate for Ward 4 position 1.

Judge Gene Hale is the only contestant for the municipal judge's position.

For constables, James Osborn is running for the Emmet Township post, with James "Willie" Williams running for the spot in the Missouri Township. Al Plyler is running for the Prescott seat.

These were the known candidates as of Monday. The filing period closed at noon Tuesday, March 31.
