Gurdon has the honor of hosting the annual meeting of the Arkansas Clerks, Recorders and Treasurers.

The meeting will be held on April 3, at Camp Winnamocka in Arkadelphia.

According to Gurdon City Recorder/Treasurer Tambra Smith, no city money can be used to help defray the cost of the meeting. Because of this Smith is having to seek donations from area business and industry.

"It should be a good meeting," she said. "Clerks from all over Arkansas are expected to be there. The response has been good so far."

So far, from the early sign ups done, a diverse group should be on hand for the meeting.

Smith is on the executive board of the Arkansas Clerks, Recorders and Treasurers Association. She was nominated to have Gurdon host the 1998 meeting.

David Kraft, deputy legislative auditor, will be one of the featured speakers at the gathering. He will be presenting a program on "Preparing for a Legislative Audit."

Smith said the purpose of these meetings is to have a continuing education program for those holding the aforementioned offices so they can be more efficient in their job duties.

Other featured speakers for the event include Jimmie Lou Fisher, state treasurer. She will speak on the State Treasurer, Revenue and You.

A talk on "Why Can't We Be Friends" for employer-employee friendship in the workplace will be given by Dr. Alan Wright of Henderson State University.

Following a lunch break, there will be a career fashion wear show, sponsored by Maurice's Department Store.

ACCRTA President Carolyn Willet will present those on hand with their certifications at the conclusion of the meeting.
