The Easter RabbitPublished Wednesday, April 8, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesOnce there was a little Rabbit who just sat upon a shelf; Every time he wagged his tail he'd tickle his little self. He was a lazy little fellow; he wouldn't work, he wouldn't play; He just sat and wagged his tail every single day. Then one day his tail came off; that really made him sad; For just a little ball of cotton was the only tail he had. He was so upset he didn't know what to do; He wouldn't eat he couldn't sleep and he shed some tears, too. Then one day he thought of Rudolph with that ugly shiny nose; And how each year at Christmas time his popularity grows. Now if he can do it, so can I he told his little self; No more will I be guilty of just sitting on a shelf. Easter's coming up, he said, and I will make some plans: I know I won't be perfect, but I'll do the best I can. He boiled some eggs and bought some candy for each little boy and girl, And early on Easter morning he started hopping around the world. He filled each little Easter basket for children good and bad: That rabbit had more fun that day than he ever had. The children all just loved him and thought he was so neat; They clapped their hands and sung to him as he hopped down the street. By now I am sure you've guessed my name; it is one we all know well; It's just simple as can be; it's Peter Cotton Tail. Louise Kuhn Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
