Classy MomentsPublished Wednesday, April 8, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesTrack season is upon us. We have so many athletics in our school and there is a sport favorite for just about everybody. The students training for track complained of aching muscles, (some that they did not know they had), some were even "so tired" they could hardly hold their heads up, but now they are ready for the competition that they will be involved in for the next few weeks. We wish them good luck and ask that they do their best and, most importantly, remember we are proud of you. In case you are hearing "four score and seven years," don't be too alarmed as the eighth grader social studies are reciting the Gettysburg Address. It is such an exciting experience to watch these students stand before their classmates and recite the assigned work, of which they first said, "I can't do that." Several students are running for Student Council officers and representatives for the school year of 1998-99. The next assembly will be these students giving their campaign speeches before the student body. The contest is still going on for students and teachers to have the opportunity to design a school flag. The GMS Student Council has been working hard to be able to have the flag poles installed at the new building. They first started with the one flag pole and then decided to have two, one for the USA flag, and one for the Arkansas flag. After talking about it, they decided it would be nice to have a school flag. Three flag poles!! They are still hoping to be able to afford this special addition to the school. The faculty met with Mr. Smithson and were so excited to hear him explain special features of the new building. They also learned that July will be moving month. New furniture is being selected by each teacher. We hope that you are as excited about the building as we are. We understand that a local fire department somewhere in the surrounding area has a new "volunteer." We hope it will not be necessary for his services to be needed. We do not attend classes the 10th and 13th, as these are bad weather days in our schedule that we have not had to use, so we will have those days off. Hope you have a wonderful Easter and remember us as we continue to make those Classy Moments at GMS. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
