Students Collect Pennies; Goal Set A One MillionPublished Wednesday, April 8, 1998 in the Gurdon TimesThe students a Gurdon Middle School have set a very ambitious goal. They hope to collect a million pennies. Why, you may ask, collect a million pennies? What does a million pennies look like? How much space would a million pennies take up? Can the students and faculty of GMS work together to complete this project? They have made a great start. The wagon in the picture contains all the pennies the students have collected so far. There are over 50,000 pennies pictured. They have had contests to guess how many pennies in different containers. As each home room has filled up a gallon jug with pennies, they have been given free tune. Now the school is asking for your help. Several businesses around town will have containers for you to donate your pennies to help Gurdon Middle School. The money will be used for furnishings and extras for the new middle school for next year. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
